About Mendocino Coast Clinics..

Mendocino Coast Clinics is a true example of a grass roots organization. In the 1970s the Clinic was organized as a free clinic in the village of Mendocino, funded by proceeds from local dances and occasional grant dollars.

In the 1980s the County of Mendocino, under pressure to provide health services to coastal residents, took over responsibility for the Clinic. Under the direction of the Public Health Department, the Coast Clinic was moved to the Public Health building in Fort Bragg. The Clinic operated on a part time basis with a four-hour-per-week physician to oversee two part-time family nurse practitioners. In 1992, the Public Health Department changed its focus to public health issues and needed to transfer the direct patient services to another entity. The Clinic wanted to remain a direct patient services program. At that time a not-for-profit community Board of Directors was organized to take over the operation of the Clinic.

On July 1, 1994, Mendocino Coast Clinics officially separated from the County of Mendocino and became a not for profit community health center. Since 1994, the Mendocino Coast Clinics has operated as a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike.

Today, Mendocino Coast Clinics serves as the safety net provider for those who request and need our services regardless of their ability to pay

Free Help to Quit Tobacco..

The 1-800-NO-BUTTS California Smokers' Helpline has counseled nearly
half a million people in many different languages over the last 17
years.  Residents of all 50 states now have access to telephone
counseling based on the California model.

Studies have shown that people who use quit lines are twice as likely to
succeed in quitting tobacco than those without counseling.  Counseling
also increases success rates for those using nicotine replacement.

If quit lines are so successful, why do so many people still smoke?  Too
many people don't know about the service - even your healthcare provider
may not know!
